Duc anh vietnamese street food
Let me start by saying, ”Berlin ist toll”!!! Berlin is amazing for countless reasons, but the food and cafe scene is perhaps one of my favorite things about the city.
To be honest, there are too many places to count. So I will condense this list to only a few of my stand-out, sustainable and cost-effective restaurants and cafes
Huong sen- vietnamesich vegetarisches restuarant berlin
So naturally this place has to be listed first, as it is 100% plant-based!
The food is incredible and the vibrant, fresh herbs really pop in all the dishes I’ve tried here. It is a bit of a hidden gem, but a gem nonetheless! Vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters will all enjoy the good, as it is very tasty and bursting with flavor.
Located on Danzinger Str. 42, it’s right off the tram and can be spotted by the cute little lanterns hanging up around the front of the restaurant.
Everything tastes very fresh and the presentation is so crisp and clean with the wood and bamboo. Though the food is all quite cheap in price (about 7€ for a large sized entree dish), the ambiance, presentation and taste are all high quality!
It’s hard to recommend a favorite dish, as everything okay the menu is definitely worth a taste. However, I am partial to their curry (both the traditional and the mango), dau nam (a girl loves her mushrooms) and the sushi. They also have some yummy lassis and teas.

Duc Anh Vietnamese Street Food
In my totally bias opinion, I knew this place would be delicious based on it’s location alone! Anything with Marie in the name has to be good, right?! Duc Anh Vietnamese Street Food is located on Marienburger Straße in Prenzlauer Berg and their food is amazing! And of course, in typical Berlin Fashion, they have a special menu with tons of delicious vegan fare!
I started my meal with some fresh mint tea, followed by vegan spring rolls (Nr.3) and Pho Dau (Vegan Pho with Tofu) (nr.13). I ended my meal with delicious Vietnamese coffee.
The entire meal was super affordable as each dish ranges between 6-8€ and 3-4€ for an appetizer.
Of note, this is a family-owned restaurant and the mother and son are both very sweet and hospitable.

Cafes
espresso-ambulanz
Located at Oranienburger Str. 51 in 10117 Berlin, this cafe is likely the coziest place you’ll ever see! The interior has a warm yet eclectic charm and the staff are super friendly! It’s the perfect place to get work done with a nice coffee or tea in hand and a nice vibe and ambiance in the background. I stop here every time I’m in Berlin.
During my first visit circa 2014, I was introduced to the delicious David Rio Chai tea collection. Orca Spice was, and still is, my favorite!!! It’s sugar free, vegan, and incredibly delicious!!
In addition to coffee and tea products, they also offer milkshakes, smoothies, pastries and desserts. The croissant mit schoko (with chocolate) 🥐 🍫 is one of my favorites!
Coffee Fellows
This gem is one of my favorite coffee chains!
With over 200 locations, you’re bound to find one no matter where you are in Germany.
One of the major pros of chain cafes is the consistency you can expect in each location. Their motto is “feel at home” and I will say, each location I’ve visited did give off a very cozy, home-like feeling, which is particularly impressively for a chain cafe. From a sustainability standpoint, I’m also a fan of their reusable Care Cup and option to use your own mug.
Most importantly, the drinks are very tasty! My typical go-to teas are the Kurkuma Mango, Camilla Vanilla and Earl Grey. As a note, all of their teas are organic! Regarding coffee, they curate their own blends and offer soy and oat milk alternatives. Regarding other drinks, their chai tea uses their own in-house spice recipe, they have a variety of yummy juices, all of which can be prepared with ginger, lemon and olive oil to break down vitamins E, D, K, A on request and their matcha is divine!!!

Godshot Cafe
They have delicious , arabica coffee, tasty matcha and several non-dairy milk alternatives. In addition to soy milk and oat milk, they also carry Harvest Moon (a coconut, cashew and rice based milk). They also make a nice Curcumin latte!
Though small in size and lacking free-WiFi, these aspects add to the cozy charm of the cafe.
What I appreciate most about this place is the cups. Their to-go cups are recyclable and reusable! Yay for being green!

Wursthain
Need a quick snack?! Frites are the way to go!! So I’m noting Wursthain, but honestly, any place that sells currywurst is likely to have tasty fries. And yes, I realize how odd it may seem to be highlighting fries, but the fries in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium are genuinely better than in any other countries I’ve ever visited. They’re not the over-oily, thin, American fast-food type of fry. They’re crispy on the outside, fluffy (yes, fluffy!) on the inside and you can top them with nearly anything. My favorite topping is Dutch joppie saus (stay tuned for my Amsterdam food guide), but a little sprinkle of that yummy German seasoning (Pommesgewürz) and some curry ketchup are definitely a close second!
